Achieve peak performance with dedicated hosting
Dedicated hosting involves you renting an entire server from a web host, you do not share the server with anybody else.
Your hosting provider still takes care of supporting your server (hardware, operating system, backup facilities etc) whilst you retain full control and ownership over its software applications and content, giving you exclusive use and command over your website's server.
Dedicated hosting is suited to websites that generate high traffic volumes. Unfortunately higher start up and maintenance costs are involved, but users benefit from greater uptime, increased security and scalability.
In some cases a dedicated server can offer less overhead and a larger return on investment. Dedicated servers are most often housed in data centers, similar to colocation facilities, providing redundant power sources and HVAC systems. In contrast to colocation, the server hardware is owned by the provider and in some cases they will provide support for your operating system or applications.
Availability, price and employee familiarity often determines which operating systems are offered on dedicated servers.
2 types of dedicated hosting:
- Managed dedicated server - the responsibility for the maintenance, backup and running of the server/software is taken away from you and given to UKFast leaving you free to focus on your business - its a headache free hosting solution.
- Unmanaged dedicated server - unlike managed hosting, you are in charge of all your maintenance, monitoring and backup needs whilst still benefiting from having your own exclusive server.
Dedicated servers can be configured and operated remotely by you, giving you exclusive use and command over your website's server, increased download times and data storage, unlike shared hosting.
Advantages of dedicated hosting
- Enhanced performance as you are not sharing your server with anyone else. All of the bandwidth and system resources on your dedicated server are only for your site to use.
- Increased security as no one else can get on your server.
- Install any applications you like - any additional applications that you install on the server are yours to maintain.
